Energy Services Company (ESCo)

A long-term home for heat networks that need investment, expertise and accountable operation.

Heatiliti acquires, adopts and operates new and existing communal and district heat networks across the UK. We are particularly interested in acquiring underperforming or distressed heat networks that need capital investment, technical improvement and a more accountable long-term operating model.

Our ESCo approach combines technical due diligence, targeted renovation, performance-led operation, consumer protection and long-term asset stewardship. We take responsibility for the network as a connected system – from energy centre and distribution infrastructure to metering, billing and customer support.

ESCo solutions

We structure the right long-term model for the asset, development and stakeholders involved. Available arrangements include:

  • New-build heat-network adoption

  • Acquisition or purchase of existing assets

  • Long-term operating concessions

  • Joint ventures

  • Management-only agreements with an investment option

  • Design, finance, build, operate and maintain arrangements

Every potential acquisition, adoption or investment is subject to technical, commercial and legal due diligence, together with infrastructure funding and investment-committee approval where required.

New-build adoption

For developers and housebuilders, an ESCo arrangement can create a clear route for the long-term ownership and operation of the heat network. Heatiliti can engage early in the development process to inform technical requirements, commercial structure, adoption criteria, customer-service arrangements and long-term asset performance.

This whole-life approach helps reduce the risk of a technically compliant scheme becoming an operational or commercial liability after completion.

Consumer protection commitment

Heatiliti believes a heat network succeeds only when customers receive dependable heating and hot water, clear information, fair and transparent charging, responsive support and measurable value.

  • Clear customer communication and accessible support

  • Transparent heat tariffs, standing charges and billing processes

  • Responsive incident management and proactive maintenance

  • Performance monitoring and investment to protect reliability

  • Appropriate energy-procurement oversight

  • A practical, customer-focused approach to regulatory compliance

Why Heatiliti

Heatiliti combines the skills that an ESCo needs across the complete value chain: consultancy, design, M&E delivery, controls, operation and maintenance, performance contracting and customer-facing heat-network services. This gives us a practical view of the investment needed, the delivery risks involved and the operational actions required to protect both asset value and consumer outcomes.

Relevant experience

Heatiliti’s senior team has experience developing and supporting long-term ESCo models for new-build heat networks, including arrangements in which the ESCo assumes heat-supplier responsibilities for maintenance, repairs, metering and billing. The team also brings experience of large-scale controls, hydraulic and energy-centre improvement programmes that inform the technical due diligence and investment approach applied to existing assets.

FAQs

What types of network does Heatiliti acquire or adopt?

We consider new-build communal and district heat networks, established operational assets and underperforming or distressed networks that require investment and a long-term operating solution.

Will Heatiliti acquire a small network?

Each opportunity is considered on its technical condition, customer base, investment requirement, commercial structure and long-term operating potential. Contact us with the details of the asset for an initial discussion.

Can Heatiliti take over metering, billing and customer care?

Yes. We can take responsibility for metering, billing, customer-account management, service communications, tariff governance and customer care as part of the ESCo model.

Can Heatiliti invest in network improvement?

Yes. Heatiliti can arrange investment through an infrastructure funding partner, subject to full due diligence and investment approval. The investment programme may include plant, controls, hydraulic improvement, distribution infrastructure, metering, HIUs and decarbonisation measures.

Does Heatiliti only provide ESCo solutions for new-build developments?

No. We support both new-build adoption and the acquisition, renovation and long-term operation of existing heat networks.

What if we want to keep ownership of our network?

Our ESCo Light service lets you keep ownership and your Ofgem registration while Heatiliti takes on all day-to-day operation, maintenance, metering, billing, energy procurement, tariff setting and regulatory reporting. It can later move to a full ESCo arrangement if your priorities change.
